The 4th “New Voice” Contest was Rounded Off in HBU

On the evening of October 9th, the 4th “New Voice” College Students’ Language, Culture and Art Festival & Final Contest of the Original Works Recitation was Rounded Off in the Handan Concert Hall of HBU. As the backbone of Hebei Province’s popularization activities, the 4th “New Voice” College Students’ Language, Culture and Art Festival has presented a higher level than before in the organization of activities, the selection of works, and the level of award-winning works. HBU’s work “Cliff” won the “New Voice” award, which was stood out for it was awarded separately in the competition for the first time, presenting a professional “gift” for the 100th anniversary of HBU.

At the final, Meng Qingyu, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of HBU, delivered a speech. He briefly introduced the development history of HBU over the past 100 years, and said that HBU has always attached importance to language work. Last year, HBU was successfully selected as the second batch of national language promotion bases. “New Voice” College Students’ College Students’ Language, Culture and Art Festival is one of the key activities of Hebei Provincial Language Committee’s “Popularization Week”, and is a feature project of HBU’s language and writing promotion. As part of activities of the 100th Anniversary of HBU, this competition grasps the pulse of the new era, listens to the sound of the new era, and improves the language and cultural literacy and application ability of college students in the new era. This competition is dedicated to creating high-quality cultural projects for colleges and universities, writing a new era with original works records, and leading the cultural trends of contemporary college students.

Wang Hui, the second-level inspector of the Hebei Education Department pointed out in his speech that the “New Voice” College Students’ Language, Culture and Art Festival has become an important platform for the promotion and inheritance of the excellent Chinese language and culture in Hebei province since it was held four times. It is of great significance for improving college students’ language and cultural literacy and application ability, exploring language arts talents, improving the level of audio language teaching, and enhancing cultural confidence. HBU also undertook the evaluation of the construction of the language and writing standards of colleges and universities in Hebei province, the provincial selection of classic reading activities, etc., setting an example for colleges and universities in Hebei province and making contributions to the language and writing work of Hebei province.

The theme of this competition is “extol the centuries history of the Party, inherit the culture of the canal for thousands of years, and play the strong voice of the national era”, aiming to grasp the pulse of the new era, listen to the sound of the new era, improve the language and cultural literacy and application ability of college students in the new era, and give full play to the important role of language arts and create high-quality cultural projects in colleges and universities.

After years of polishing, the influence of the competition has grown day by day. This year, the competition received a total of 349 works from 70 universities across the country. In the end, 26 works from 22 universities entered the semi-finals, and 14 works from 9 universities entered the finals. Through careful evaluation, the expert judges finally selected 1 “New Voice” award and 13 first, second and third prizes. In addition, three works from Sichuan Conservatory of Music’s “Snow Harvest in September”, “No One Less” from Hebei University, and “Shining Chapter” from Soochow University won the Best Original Work Award.
